1.3 System Composition and Working Principle
1.3.1 System Composition

- SPM Gauge: A round, wide-temperature-resistant digital display indicator. Its internal structure mainly includes a 110/220VAC power board and a signal processing and display board. - SPM Sensor: Adopts a non-contact measurement method, consisting of a proximity sensing switch assembly, junction box, probe housing, and other components. The sensor’s detailed components are listed in Table 1, and its structure is shown in Figure 2.

1.3.2 Working Principle
The SZJ-BS SPM Unit operates based on non-contact sensing and signal processing technology, following this principle:
- When a metal target passes through the sensing area of the SPM sensor, the sensor generates a pulse signal.
- The pulse signal is transmitted to the signal processing and display board of the SPM gauge via the SPM cable.
- The signal processing and display board processes and calculates the received pulse signal to obtain the current SPM value, What’s app +8615972752793Luben@youlongpetro.comwhich is then displayed on the gauge’s digital screen.

1.4 Installation, Adjustment and Operation
1.4.1 Installation of SPM Sensor
The SPM sensor can be installed in two common positions: the mud pump crosshead cover plate and the mud pump drive shaft. Follow the corresponding steps for installation:
Installation on the Mud Pump Crosshead Cover Plate
- Open the crosshead cover plate of the mud pump. What’s app +8615972752793Luben@youlongpetro.comTighten a metal target onto the crosshead inside the pump using a bolt (the bolt itself can also serve as the target).
- Drill a 28mm-diameter round hole in the cover plate directly opposite the target, then install the SPM sensor.
- Start the pump; the crosshead will move back and forth. When the crosshead reaches its extreme position, ensure the distance between the target and the sensor is 5~10mm (see Figure 4).

- Install the sensor, tighten the nuts fixing it to the cover plate, and retract the probe to maintain a gap of 1cm or more between the probe and the crosshead.
- Keep the crosshead stationary, reinstall the cover plate, and tighten all screws. Ensure the probe center is aligned with the target.
- Turn the sensor’s long screw inward until the probe slightly touches the target, then turn it outward 3~5 rounds to achieve the 5~10mm gap requirement.

Installation on the Mud Pump Drive Shaft
- Weld a metal target at a suitable position on the mud pump drive shaft.What’s app +8615972752793Luben@youlongpetro.com
- Drill a 28mm-diameter round hole in the mounting bracket, ensuring it is aligned with the target.
- Install the SPM sensor and maintain a 5~10mm sensing distance.
- Rotate the drive shaft to confirm the sensor will not touch the target during operation (see Figure 5).

Cable Connection
Connect one end of the SPM cable to the sensor and the other end to the socket on the round SPM gauge.
1.4.2 Installation of SPM Gauge
- Mount the SPM gauge in a position on the driller’s box or console that is easily visible to the driller.
- Properly connect the power cable and SPM cable to the gauge.
Installation Dimensions: The gauge has dimensions of 163mm×145mm, with 4×Φ5.5EQS mounting holes (see Figure 6).

1.4.3 Adjustment and Operation of SPM Gauge
Setting the SPM Multiplier Factor

- Turn off the power and remove the SPM gauge cover. The circular circuit board inside is the signal processing and display board, which is equipped with an 8-bit DIP switch (marked “Calibration Factor A” on the board) using binary coding.

Gauge State Switching and Factor Checking
There is a button switch on the circuit board with the following functions:
- Button pressed down: The instrument enters the working state for SPM measurement and display.
- Button released (up): The LCD screen displays the multiplier factor in the format “Px.x.x” (e.g., factor 1.00 is displayed as “P1.0.0”), allowing verification of the setting.
Calibration of SPM Gauge

- Press the button to switch to measuring state, start the pump, and manually count the pump strokes per minute (record as X).

2.1 Maintenance
